From Dusty iPad to Wall-Mounted Smart Home Panel
June 19, 2026I've always wanted one central place to control everything in my home. Not five different apps, not a voice assistant that mishears me, just one clean interface on the wall.

I'm Rick, a front-of-the-front-end developer (as Brad Frost dubbed it (opens in a new window)) from the Netherlands. The kind who actually reads the HTML and CSS specs for fun. I'm obsessed with the evolution of the web: testing bleeding-edge browser features, filing bug reports, pushing pixels and breaking browsers. Accessibility isn't a checkbox on my list, it's the foundation everything else is built on. I help companies across government, insurance, public transport, hospitality, and finance build and maintain WCAG-compliant websites that work for everyone. Yes, everyone.
I also co-host Pixel Paranoia (opens in a new window), a Dutch podcast about UX, UI, and front-end development, together with Michele Marotto. Each episode is structured like a webpage: an <aside> for fun finds often related to the main topic, a <main> for a deep-dive topic, and a <footer> for a closing tip or random advice. Available wherever you get your podcasts.
From time to time I put my thoughts into writing, dive into my blog for opinions, discoveries, random products, and the occasional rant about browser bugs.
